About Devika

Devika was born in Kwazulu-Natal South Africa. Her passion for visual art started at a very early age and proceeded to be a constant throughout her career.  As a self taught artist, she later studied fine art and therapeutic art. As an entrepreneur, she has turned her passion and skill into a business, exhibiting both locally and internationally. Currently, she works at her studio in Define Art Gallery. Her services offered are bespoke artwork, exhibitions and collaborative projects. Some of her pieces found their places in local museums as well as the Mandela foundation archives. She was privileged to meet Nelson Mandela in 2006 and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 2020 and presented them with portraits. Her journey as an artist and entrepreneur is to teach other creatives the art of business while still enjoying the creative process.

Her style shows the transition of an artist infleunced by the environment of the current economic and political climate, including her experiences and the people she meets on this creatvie journey. Her initial meduim started with oils on canvas,  of  hyper realistic portriature with controlled precision. The emotion, tension and energy in her pieces flows through the artwork to the viewer. Her current works are rooted in abstraction, narration and addressing the freedom of expression, breaking the rules using mixed media on canvas. The Results are a deviated perception, juxtaposing what is real and true in our current environment. As an art therapist, creating and teaching art takes the experience to the next level. She freely shares her skills with young artists and everyone that visits the gallery.
